Overview
Bell Bay Aluminium (BBA) smelter began operating in 1955 and holds a unique place in Tasmanian
and Australian history as the first aluminium smelter in the Southern Hemisphere. Bell Bay Aluminium uses leading technology to find new ways to increase productivity and reduce use of their natural resources. Bell Bay Aluminium has embraced smart technology and in 2019, the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) granted its Performance Standard and Chain of Custody certifications to the smelter. ASI certification means customers can be assured that the aluminium they purchase has been produced to the highest environmental, social and governance standards, ranging from greenhouse gas emissions to human rights. Bell Bay Aluminium knows scholarships can change lives and that the provision of financial assistance often enables students to undertake further education opportunities that may otherwise be hard for them to access. Bell Bay Aluminium wants to support young Tasmanians to achieve their goals and enhance their career opportunities.
Eligibility
- Available to a student who is or has commenced study in either a Bachelor of Engineering
(Specialisation) with Honours or Bachelor of Science, with an interest in environmental science,
environmental remediation, geography and environment, or related fields aligned with environmental sustainability. - Selection will be based on demonstration of financial need.
- Preference will be given to applicants from Northern Tasmania, including the Tamar Valley region, which encompasses the George Town Council, West Tamar Council, City of Launceston, Dorset, and Northern Midlands local government areas.
