Overview

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania is committed to the conservation of Tasmania’s biodiversity and to the future of conservation science, as reflected by their financial support of this endowed scholarship.

Eligibility

  • Available to a student commencing Honours in the School of Biological Sciences in Semester 1, 2027.
  • The research project must encompass biodiversity conservation and management related to priority areas identified by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania and provided to the University.
  • Priorities for the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania include:
    • Increasing understanding of species abundance and trends.
    • Improved understanding of biodiversity responses to drivers such as climate, fire invasive species and pathogens.
    • Studies that inform improved conservation management.
      • Potential projects could include:
        • Utilising existing the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania data-sets to establish and/or update our understanding of status and trends;
        • Reviewing long-term Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania monitoring methods and data-sets in the context of their efficacy for informing management.
        • The award will be determined by the quality of the proposed project and demonstration of academic merit.
