Overview

The Tasmanian Division of the Geological Society of Australia honour Dr Jean McClenaghan as one of the few women professionals to undertake geological mapping in Tasmanian and for her contribution to teaching Earth Sciences. Jean's geological mapping was undertaken as part of her employment with the Geological Survey of Tasmania after arriving from England in 1972. After having children, Jean taught undergraduate students the fundamentals of geology for over 15 years in the School of Geology at the University of Tasmania. She still maintains a keen interest in gems, rocks, fossils and former students in her retirement.

Eligibility

Prize will be awarded to the student who has demonstrated excellence and high proficiency in mapping skills at third year level in Earth Sciences. Geological mapping is considered a primary skill for any geologist and is assessed on several excursions across third year.
